Running inside the house, Janine threw her backpack in her room, changed into the khakis still on her bed, and grabbed the blazer hanging off her desk chair. Calling in through her Holodevices would have been much easier than Hoverbiking all the way downtown, but she always felt a little embarrassed of her dream. She couldn’t have her friends through Clarity seeing that she wanted to be a Knower. That was lame. But to Janine, it meant everything.
Once she arrived at the government facility downtown, she sat still and sweaty in the creaky leather chair.
“Janine.”
Her eyes darting up toward the older man in thin wired glasses and a black suit, she followed him. She followed him down a dark hallway. She followed him into a staircase lit with red light. She followed him to a wooden door with a circular knob and stood there, realizing that he had left her side with only an instruction to knock. Knocking before her own body knew it, she waited. Staring at the door knob, a figure on the other side opened it. A figure adorned with a dainty red ring on the right pinky.
